It’s no wonder that summer is one of the most popular times of the year to get married. The idea of wedding photos with blue skies and guests enjoying drinks in the sunshine is certainly something that many brides and grooms want for their big day. But what key tips should you follow to make sure that your summer wedding is everything you want it to be?

In our latest blog, we’ve put together some helpful tips for planning a summer wedding – we hope you find them useful!

Be prepared – whatever the weather!

Unfortunately there’s one thing that you can’t control on your wedding day, and that’s the weather! While you may be wishing for sunshine, the reality is that things may not completely go to plan, and it’s important to ensure that the weather doesn’t put a dampener on your big day. This means ensuring you have plenty of umbrellas to hand if the weather turns and you want some outdoor shots at your wedding venue with your family and friends (you could even buy some that match your colour scheme), also and being prepared for a heat wave by having bottles of sun cream handy for guests too.

Choose a venue with indoor/outdoor options

For a summer wedding, it’s a great idea to give your guests options for where they spend their time during your welcome drinks or while you’re having photos before the wedding breakfast. This means looking for wedding venues that have indoor and outdoor areas, such as a spacious dining area and an outdoor terrace that can be accessed in just a couple of steps. Whether your friends and family fancy catching some rays or spending some time in the shade, the choice is theirs! Plus, this also provides a quick and easy option to get undercover if the weather turns.

Be mindful with your menu

It’s really important to choose a menu for your wedding breakfast that is weather appropriate. On a hot sunny day, tucking into a bowl of soup, roast dinner and a pudding with custard may not be the best option, and so it’s worth considering some lighter options instead such as smoked salmon, stuffed chicken with new potatoes and strawberries and cream. Or as an alternative, why not go for a quintessentially British afternoon tea instead with sandwiches, scones with lashings of cream and jam and tea served in vintage china? Perfect if your wedding has a vintage summer tea party theme!
